SRINAGAR: To make the general public aware of Cyber Crime, Police in Kulgam on Monday organized a cyber awareness cum cyber Jagrukta programme at Police Station Qaimoh. The programme was attended by respectable citizens of Redwani, Khudwani, Qaimoh, Wanpoh and its adjacent areas.

The main motive behind conducting such a programme is to provide awareness of cyber frauds among the general public, particularly students, police said in a statement.

“The officer briefed the participants about various types of cyber threats/ activities viz Identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyberstalking, humiliation of girls, phishing etc, the statement said, adding, “Chairing officer also advised the participants especially students to be aware while surfing internet and not to fall prey to cyber criminals. He also appealed to them to spread awareness among others as well as regarding the risks associated with digital transactions and social media applications in use.”

Later, participants appreciated the efforts of the police for organising “Cyber Awareness Programmes” and making the general public aware of the cybercrimes.
