SRINAGAR: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched vigorous campaigns across districts to combat drug abuse and narcotics trafficking. Several operations involving wild cannabis destruction and compliance inspections have been carried out in Baramulla, Pulwama, and nearby areas, reaffirming the force’s commitment to a drug-free society.
In Baramulla, police conducted a coordinated drive at Check Jamal Mir, Palhallan, in collaboration with the local Masjid Committee, where approximately 2.5 kanals of natural wild cannabis growing on state land were identified and destroyed. The drive highlights the strong community-police cooperation in fighting the drug menace and protecting youth from narcotics’ harmful effects.
Continuing efforts in Baramulla, police targeted wild cannabis along roadside stretches at Village DaznaLachipora and Village Nawarunda. Plants were uprooted and destroyed on the spot, preventing their misuse for illicit purposes and reducing the availability of narcotics at the source. These operations are part of a sustained strategy to curb drug proliferation and promote a safe environment.
In Pulwama, multiple drives were conducted by police posts Rahmoo, Newa, and Kakapora. At Thokerpora and Mirgund, wild cannabis growing along roadsides was identified and destroyed with active participation from Revenue officials and local residents. Similarly, at Wanpora, wild cannabis on government land was eradicated to prevent its misuse. Additionally, inspections of medical shops were carried out to ensure compliance with norms governing the sale of medicines, aiming to curb the illegal sale of habit-forming drugs.
