Amit Sharma chairs Census review meet at Kupwara
KUPWARA: Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO) for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, along with Principal Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, held a review meeting at the DC Office Complex to assess the progress of Census 2027 House Listing Operations (HLO) in the district.
During the meeting, Amit Sharma warned residents about cyber fraudsters attempting to steal personal information such as bank details and credit card numbers under the guise of Census activities. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, act responsibly, and report any suspicious activity to police or the Census Helpline at 1855.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner provided a brief overview of Kupwara’s preparedness and progress in Census 2027. Sharma appreciated the district’s performance during self-enumeration and IEC activities, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in data collection. He directed enumerators and supervisors to verify each entry thoroughly, as errors could impact future planning and policy formulation.
Sharma highlighted that Census 2027 is the country’s largest administrative and statistical exercise, crucial for planning, resource allocation, and socio-economic development. He instructed charge officers to ensure regular field inspections and random quality checks, with a focus on monitoring adherence to guidelines.
Special attention was stressed on covering migratory and seasonal populations, including tracking migration routes and collecting data on tribal populations and individuals. Sharma also emphasized that digital data collection would enhance efficiency and data quality.
Kupwara’s Principal Census Officer assured full administrative support for a smooth operation and urged officers to closely monitor field activities for timely completion.
Later, Sharma and Kupwara’s PCO briefed media on the progress of the HLO and the extensive preparations to ensure a successful Census 2027. He appealed to residents of Kupwara and the entire UTs of J&K and Ladakh to cooperate fully with census officials and provide accurate information.
He reaffirmed that all data collected is protected under Section 15 of the Census Act, 1948, and remains confidential. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Joint Director DCO J&K Arun Kumar and other concerned officers involved in the Census process.
