SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Tuesday reviewed preparations for the International Day of Yoga (IDY)-2026, scheduled for June 21, 2026, with the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Commissioner Secretaries of H&ME, YS&S, Social Welfare, School Education; Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir; and other concerned officers. Deputy Commissioners and District SSPs participated via video conferencing.
The Chief Secretary examined arrangements by Divisional and District administrations, focusing on venue identification, logistics, and participant mobilization. He emphasized meticulous planning to ensure smooth celebrations across the UT. Dulloo underscored the importance of highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s natural beauty and tourism potential alongside wellness messages. He directed authorities to organize yoga sessions at prominent tourist spots to promote yoga amid scenic landscapes and encourage public involvement.
Commissioner Secretary, H&ME, M. Raju, highlighted extensive pre-event activities, including yoga sessions at iconic locations, community outreach, youth initiatives, and environmental-focused programs like Harit Yoga. He reported that 1,952 yoga events have been conducted so far, with over 1.31 lakh participants, reflecting growing enthusiasm.
The Director of Ayush informed that J&K is the nodal agency for IDY-2026, coordinating with all departments to ensure successful events at various levels. Trained yoga instructors from MDNIY, New Delhi, will facilitate demonstrations during the main events.
The flagship event, “Yoga Sangam,” will be held on June 21 simultaneously across India, based on the Common Yoga Protocol. In Jammu and Kashmir, all 642 Ayush health facilities are registered on the Yoga Sangam Portal to promote participation.
A large-scale event at SKICC, Srinagar, is expected to host 4,000–5,000 participants. District-level events will be organized at educational institutions, tourist spots, healthcare facilities, Anganwadi centers, and villages. Dulloo urged departments to work in coordination to make IDY-2026 a mass movement promoting health and wellness across J&K.
