‘People of Pulwama deserve dignity, not political victimisation’

SRINAGAR: Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Saturday expressed serious concern over the dropping of a Rs 18 crore drinking water project for Pulwama town from the AMRUT 2.0 plan, despite its approval and release of the first installment last year.
In a post on X, Para said the proposal for the drinking water supply scheme of Pulwama town was approved under AMRUT 2.0, and the first installment was released last year. However, the proposal has now been dropped from the plan even though the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been submitted to the Housing and Urban Development Department.
“It is deeply concerning that the proposal has now been dropped from the plan despite the DPR already being submitted to the Housing & Urban Development Department,” Para said in his post.
The MLA requested Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds charge of the Housing Ministry, to personally look into the matter. He urged that the Pulwama proposal be considered this year and not allowed to become a victim of “political victimisation.”
“The people of Pulwama have suffered immensely over the years and deserve attention, dignity, and inclusive development to help heal long-standing wounds,” Para added.
The AMRUT 2.0 scheme (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) focuses on providing universal water supply and sewage management in urban areas. Pulwama town has been facing acute water shortage, and the proposed project was seen as a major relief for the residents.
