SRINAGAR: Continuing its relentless campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Police have achieved significant breakthroughs in their fight against drug trafficking. In multiple operations across Awantipora, Budgam, and Pulwama, seven drug peddlers have been arrested, and large quantities of contraband substances recovered.
Awantipora
During a vehicular check in Awantipora, police intercepted an auto rickshaw with registration number JK01BC-7644, carrying three individuals. Upon search, approximately 50 grams of charas-like substance was recovered. The accused have been identified as Asim Ahmad, son of Zaffar Ahmad Bhat from Batmaloo; Uzan Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmad Khan from Tengpora; and Farhan Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid Shigar, also from Batmaloo.
Budgam
A police team from PS Magam stopped a suspicious auto (JK04K-4469) on Watmagam-Magam Road. The driver and an accomplice attempted to flee but were tactfully apprehended. Their identities are Firdous Ahmad Ganie from Peth Kanihama and Naseer Ahmad Mir (Galwan) from Mazhama. During search, police recovered 2.14 kilograms of crushed bung (cannabis-like substance).
Pulwama
In Pulwama, a police party from PP Newa, along with a magistrate, searched the residence of Mohd Younis Sheikh and recovered approximately 110 grams of charas powder and 850 grams of charas (bang/boosa)-like substance. Two accused—Younis Ahmad Sheikh and a woman resident of Newa—were arrested. All accused have been shifted to police stations, where they remain in custody, and cases under relevant laws have been registered.
In separate operations, police arrested three more individuals involved in drug trafficking:
Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohd Shafi Ganie from Murran, was intercepted at Malangpora with 176.5 grams of charas. He disclosed procurement from Mohd Akram Shah of Junglenard Shal Tokuna. A subsequent search at Shah’s residence recovered an additional 198.5 grams of charas. FIR No. 54/2026 has been registered.
Shabir Ahmad Dar, son of Gh. Nabi Dar from Rakh Litter, was intercepted on a motorcycle at Wasoora with 235 grams of charas concealed behind the visor. FIR No. 42/2026 has been registered.
All offenders have been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing to dismantle broader drug networks.
J&K Police reaffirm their commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs from society. They urge the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking to help build a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
