SRINAGAR: The District Wushu Championship was inaugurated on Tuesday in Srinagar, drawing participation from over 160 boys and girls representing various schools, colleges, and clubs across District Srinagar. The event was marked by high enthusiasm and a competitive spirit among the young athletes.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Maqsood Ahmad Khan, Manager of the Indoor Stadium, who served as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished guests present were Ishtiyaq Khan, President of the World Fitness Federation; international player Naveed Farooq; national medalist Kamran Mohammed; Coach Irfan Ahmed Wani; Wasif Farooq; Fardeen Khan; along with several school teachers and parents supporting the participants.
Vice President of the Wushu Association of J&K, Sadat Aslam Wani, and Joint Secretary Mohammed Maqsood Rather also graced the occasion.
In his address, Chief Guest Mr. Maqsood Ahmad Khan encouraged the young athletes, stating: “Sports play a vital role not only in physical fitness but also in building discipline, confidence, and character. It is inspiring to see such a large number of boys and girls participating in Wushu. I am confident that many of these players will go on to excel at state and national levels.”
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Joint Secretary Mohammed Maqsood Rather, who expressed gratitude to all guests, officials, coaches, teachers, parents, and participants for their support and presence.
The championship will continue on March 24th and 25th, with the closing ceremony scheduled for the final day.
