BANDIPORA: Residents of Hajin have complained that several key developmental works in the town have remained incomplete for years, causing immense inconvenience to the local population.
Locals told Kashmir Reader that the main Bandipora–Hajin road near Sheikh Mohalla, which collapsed over a year ago, continues to remain unattended. They said the damaged stretch is a vital link between Hajin, Bandipora and other areas, but no repair work has been taken up so far.
Similarly, shopkeepers in the main market said the commercial hub plunges into darkness soon after evening, as streetlights installed years ago have long gone defunct. Traders said they face serious hardships during the winter months when shops shut early due to the lack of lighting.
Residents further complained that the Community Health Centre (CHC), established in 1960, still functions with outdated infrastructure and limited equipment. They said that despite being the primary health facility in the area, the centre has witnessed little upgradation over the decades.
Locals also pointed to the incomplete Mini Secretariat building, saying that the project — initiated in 2016 to bring government offices under one roof — has remained stalled, with no work resumed to date.
They alleged that Hajin faces “step-motherly treatment” during elected governments and continues to remain low on the developmental priorities of successive regimes.
