Jammu: Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu has apprehended Fayaz Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, resident of Chadoora, Budgam, who was wanted in connection with FIR No. 110/2023 under Sections 419, 420, 120-B IPC.
In 2023, an FIR was registered based on a written complaint from Javaid Iqbal of Poonch. A charge sheet was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Poonch, on October 28, 2025, against the accused. Fayaz Ahmed Bhat is accused of cheating the complainant out of Rs. 4,20,000 on the pretext of securing a government job as Panchayat Accountant through JKSSRB. He had been absconding for the past three months.
During the investigation, it was revealed that two prior cases were registered against him: FIR No. 22/2022 under Sections 420, 120-B IPC read with Section 5(2) of the POCSO Act, which was challaned before the Additional District & Session Judge, Rajouri, on November 2, 2023; and FIR No. 33/2022 under Section 420 IPC, currently under investigation.
To arrest the absconding accused, a special team was formed by Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu, led by DySP Aakash Kohli, along with HC Roop Lal and HC Girdhari Lal. The team had been tracking the accused for the past three months and successfully arrested him in Jammu.
The accused was produced before the Sub-Judge, Poonch, today and has been remanded to judicial custody.
