Srinagar: Continuing its relentless drive against the menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse, J&K Police attached a motorcycle under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In a statement, officials said that a Police party of Police Post Zachaldara, acting on legal provisions, attached a motorcycle bearing registration number PB91E-1017, belonging to Ghulam Mohammad Rather son of Mohammad Asadullah Rather resident of Kralpora, Kupwara. The said individual is involved in FIR No. 164/2025, registered under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Handwara.
The action was carried out under section 68-F of the NDPS Act, which empowers law enforcement agencies to freeze, seize or attach property/vehicles used in illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs. This step forms part of the broader strategy of J&K Police to not only prosecute offenders but also strike at the financial gains and assets derived from the drug trade.
J&K Police once again urged the general public to extend full cooperation and share credible information regarding drug peddling and related activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. Together, we can defeat this social evil and build a drug-free society.
Police have recovered substantial quantity of contraband substance from a residential house in Zainapora area of Shopian, besides, arrests two drug peddler in Budgam and Shopian districts.
Acting on specific information, Police Station Zainapora registered a case vide FIR No. 77/2025 of NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Shopian. A team led by SHO PS Zainapora accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the house of Gh Mohammad Sheikh son of Sanaullah Sheikh resident of Humhuna Nagbal.
During the search, 1 Kg of charas-like substance along with a grinder machine used for processing contraband was seized. The accused is absconding and efforts are underway to effect his arrest.
Meanwhile, acting on specific input, a police team from Police Post Wachi established a checkpoint at Naghard Wachi intercepted a drug peddler identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh Hassan Sheikh resident of Pombia Kulgam. During search, 101 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 78/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora.
In Budgam, J&K Police arrested a drug peddler in Checkpora Kralpora and recovered 112 grams of charas-like substance from his possession. He has been identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi son of Gh Qadir Dhobi resident of Dharambugh Kralpora. A case vide FIR No. 173/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Chadoora and investigation has been initiated.
