FCIK accuses EC of disregarding court orders, calls for urgent meeting today

SRINAGAR: The Advisory Committee of the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has called an urgent meeting of Presidents of Industrial Estates, district representatives, and key stakeholders from across the Kashmir Valley on Sunday.

Scheduled at 10.30 am at FCIK headquarters, the meeting will address the deepening crisis arising from the Election Commission’s “illegal and arbitrary rejection” of nomination forms, the “gross under-representation” of stakeholders, and the “deliberate failure” to update the General Council list.

“The current electoral process, marred by blatant constitutional violations and misconduct, has sparked widespread outrage among stakeholders. Numerous complaints have been lodged against the Election Commission for its disregard of due process and transparency, forcing several aggrieved parties to approach the courts. In response, the Hon’ble courts have issued multiple stay orders—the recent one from the Hon’ble Court of Principal District Judge, Baramullah, which imposes a blanket suspension on the ongoing election process till next hearing of the court,” the chamber said in a statement issued here.

The FCIK added, “Despite explicit and unequivocal judicial directives, the Election Commission has, in a surprising and deeply troubling move, chosen to disregard the court’s orders. Instead, it has unilaterally proceeded to issue controversial and unauthorised lists of candidates. This blatant defiance not only contravenes the rule of law but also exacerbates the ongoing institutional crisis, further eroding trust and deepening disillusionment among stakeholders and members alike.”

The Advisory Committee has unequivocally disassociated itself from these actions, emphasising that it neither endorses nor recognises any process that lacks legal sanction, the chamber said.

The Committee reaffirmed the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir’s unwavering commitment to upholding judicial authority, preserving institutional integrity, and adhering strictly to democratic values. “It has made it categorically clear that the organisation will not participate in or legitimise any exercise that violates legal norms or compromises its ethical foundations,” it added.

“This meeting aims to forge a unified stance among stakeholders and formulate a decisive course of action to restore legitimacy, transparency, and lawful conduct to the electoral process,” the FCIK added.
