BARAMULLA: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“A police party headed by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Khawajabagh Baramulla intercepted one person. During the search, 60 tablets of Alprazolam and 29 tablets of Pacitane psychotropic substances were recovered from his possession,” police said in a statement, adding, “He has been identified as Sarfaraz Ahmad Dar son of Sonaullah Dar resident of Kralhar Baramulla.”
Similarly, a police party of Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Banali Boniyar, intercepted one suspicious person identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Sheikh son of Gh Hassan resident of Dudran. During the search, 54 grams of Heroin-like substance were recovered from his possession.
Moreover, a police party of Police Post Wagoora at a checkpoint established at Takiya Wagoora, intercepted one suspicious person identified as Jahangir Ahmad Shah son of Mehraj ud Din resident of Takiya Wagoora. During the search, 30 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession, the statement said.
All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs in society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
