GANDERBAL: A road accident on November 29 in the Prang area of Kangan has claimed the life of 42-year-old Atiqa Akther, a dedicated government teacher from Harran, Ganderbal. The accident also left her 14-year-old son critically injured, who remains under medical care at SKIMS, Soura.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Atiqa succumbed to her injuries on Monday, leaving the community in deep sorrow. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the mishap.
Atiqa, who was posted at Check Wussan, Kangan, was the wife of Dr. Farooq Ahmad of Harran and the sister of Master Ab. Rashid Ahangar of Kangan. Her untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the region, with colleagues, students, and residents expressing profound grief.
A pall of gloom enveloped Harran as Atiqa’s body was brought home. Hundreds of mourners from Kangan, Ganderbal, and nearby areas gathered to pay their last respects. Funeral prayers, held at 6:30 pm, saw a sea of mourners offering heartfelt prayers for her soul.
“Atiqa’s passing has left a void in the lives of her loved ones, students, and colleagues. She will be remembered as a dedicated teacher and a caring mother,” said Sheikh Nazir, a senior journalist and social activist.
