Wealth often masquerades as affection, but it’s crucial for parents to prioritise moral education, shape children into responsible individuals
In today’s world, parents often mistakenly equate love with lavish spending. However, this approach can have devastating consequences.
Providing children with excessive luxuries, such as smartphones in elementary school or ATMs, is not love. Rather, it’s essential to teach them the value of money and hard work. The abundance of wealth can lead to:
- Drug addiction
- Promiscuity
- Suicide
- Disrespect towards authority
Parents must adopt a balanced approach, focusing on:
- Religious and moral upbringing
- Limited pocket money
- Delayed access to privileges (e.g., smartphones)
- Encouraging children to face challenges and learn from failures
A Personal Anecdote
A brilliant friend, once an exceptional student, now shuns education, citing his parents’ wealth as a reason to pursue business. I fear he’ll fail, lacking the resilience and work ethic necessary for success.
Importance of moral education
Without moral guidance, becoming a doctor, teacher, or engineer is meaningless. We need to focus on grassroots-level work to cultivate a strong moral foundation.
In professional colleges, moral education should be a compulsory subject to ensure that future doctors, engineers, and teachers possess a strong moral compass.
When doctors graduate from medical college without moral education, they often lack empathy and exploit the poor and vulnerable.
Parents should prioritize moral values over self-financed admissions, regardless of their financial resources. Otherwise, these unchecked individuals will ultimately harm society.
We must redefine success, recognising that professional achievements without moral character are hollow.
Let’s incorporate moral education into our educational system to raise a generation of compassionate professionals who uplift society.
Redefine parental love by focusing on moral education and character development. Encourage children to face challenges, learn from failures, and cultivate empathy. By doing so, we will raise a generation of resilient, hardworking, and morally sound individuals equipped to uplift society.
