Residents seek appointment of new Executive Officer
HAJIN: Residents of Hajin are facing significant challenges due to the dual role of the Executive Officer (EO) MC Bandipora/Sumbal, who also holds the additional charge of EO for the Municipal Committee Hajin. This situation is causing delays in essential municipal services, impacting the daily lives of locals.
Residents report that the EO’s dual responsibilities often result in extended wait times for necessary services, as the officer only visits the office once or twice a week. Abdul Majeed, a local resident, expressed his frustration, stating, “I tried to apply for a birth certificate for my son, but the process is taking a toll due to the EO’s absence. Services like issuing death and birth certificates are severely affected due to the lack of proper staff.”
Majeed added that many municipal works are stalled in the absence of the officer. “We have to check with other employees first to see if the executive officer has attended the office to clear the documents,” he explained.
The previous Executive Officer retired, and since then, the EO of Sumbal/Bandipora has been handling the additional charge. This arrangement has led to a backlog of work and inefficiencies in the municipal office. The Chief Executive Officer of Bandipora is burdened with additional responsibilities for EO Sumbal and Hajin.
Residents are urging the Director of Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir, to appoint a new Executive Officer for the Municipal Committee Hajin to alleviate these issues. They hope that by removing the additional charge from the EO Sumbal, municipal works will resume smoothly and efficiently, ensuring timely processing of essential documents and other municipal functions. The locals have emphasized the need for a full-fledged officer to manage the Municipal Committee effectively.
Residents are hopeful that the Urban Local Bodies department will address this issue promptly, filling the void as soon as possible.
