Another search operation continues in Konibal after locals spot bear

PAMPORE: In a successful rescue operation, Wildlife Department officials rescued a black bear trapped in a trench in the Khunmoh area of Wildlife Range Khrew Pampore on Sunday evening.
The experts led by Block Officer Khrew Abdul Hameed acted promptly after receiving a distress call from local residents about the trapped bear. The team immediately rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the bear alive without causing any injury to the animal.
An official from the department told Kashmir Reader, “We received information from the locals about the black bear trapped in a trench. Our team immediately mobilized and successfully rescued the bear without any harm.”
The presence of the wild bear had created a sense of alarm among the locals, but the successful rescue brought significant relief to the community. The locals expressed their gratitude and heaved a sigh of relief once the bear was safely captured, Aqib Parray a wildlife department employee told Kashmir Reader.
The Wildlife Department’s swift and efficient response highlights their dedication to wildlife conservation and community safety.
Earlier, on Sunday afternoon, the department’s range Khrew Pampore along with local residents of Konibal, conducted a joint search operation after some locals reported sighting a wild bear in the Konibal area of Pampore village.
A wildlife official said they received information from locals about the presence of a bear along with two cubs in the area. “A day and night search operation has been underway since May 8, following an incident where a bear attacked and seriously injured a 45-year-old man, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, from Konibal and since then he has been under treatment in Srinagar hospital,” he said.
Wildlife Department Block Officer Abdul Hameed said a search operation was conducted in the Konibal area. “This operation has been ongoing for the last two weeks,” he said, adding, “Whenever we receive information from the locals wild bear supported in the area, we immediately reach the spot.”
The officer added, “We urge people not to dump garbage on the roads, as this attracts wild animals to residential areas. The government has provided vehicles for garbage disposal. Our team is engaged in day and night search operations to ensure the safety of the residents and prevent any harm. We appeal to the public to cooperate with us.”
