Ganderbal: Department of Chemistry, School of Physical & Chemical Sciences, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organized a one-day programme on “World Water Day” under the G-20 University Connect at Nuner campus on Wednesday.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean School of Physical & Chemical Sciences, Prof. Wali Mohammad Shah, Dean School of Life Sciences, Prof. Mohammad Yousuf, Head Department of Chemistry, Dr. Abid Hamid Dar, Former Head, Department of Chemistry, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Kowsar Majid, Head Department of Botany, Prof Azra N. Kamili, faculty members and students were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, emphasised on the conservation and preservation of water. He said we need to create awareness among people regarding the significance of water to our planet.
Registrar, Prof. M. Afzal Zargar, highlighted various schemes of the government of India which address the conservation and preservation of water resources. He further asked the students to launch awareness campaigns for stopping the contamination of the water bodies in Kashmir.
Dean, School of Physical & Chemical Sciences, Prof. Wali Mohammad Shah, briefed the audience about the importance of water in daily life. He thanked the university administration for supporting the event.
Dr. Abid Hamid Dar highlighted the significance of the event and talked about the physiological and chemical aspects of water. The programme had three technical sessions: (Extension Lecture, Debate Competition and Quiz Competition).
During the first session, invited speaker Prof. Kowsar Majid delivered a talk on “Water Conservation and Management- A Promise for Peace on Earth”. She emphasized on the importance of water and quoted “Like blood can be replaced by blood, water can also be replaced by water only”. The technical session II were headed by Dr. Ambreen Mushtaq and Dr. M. Nadeem Lone while as Dr. M. Sikander Dar & Dr. Samiullah Bhat were the rapporteurs. Dr. Sumaya Bashir conducted the programme proceedings while Dr. Rifat Akbar proposed the vote of thanks for the inaugural function.
PAINTING COMPETITION ORGANISED
Department of Politics and Governance in collaboration with the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Wednesday organised a poster competition on the theme “one Earth, one Family, one Future,” at Green Campus here.
Students from different departments participated in the competition and displayed their works in the campus lawns.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah said, the objective of holding the competition is to provide a platform to the students to showcase their talent. The students should channelize their energy on positive things and stay away from the negativities.
Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, appreciated all the participants and said the university is organising a series of events to commemorate the G20 Presidency. He talked about how India is leading the world in taking steps to preserve the earth and fight the ever increasing environment pollution.
In the competition, Humaira and Wikas from IT deptt bagged the first and second spot while Imran from deptt of Politics and Governance bagged the third slot.
CUK- NIT jointly holds ‘Advertise Your Innovation Contest’
Department of Politics and Governance and School of Business Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with the Department of HSSM, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hazratbal, Srinagar, jointly organised a contest ‘Advertise Your Innovation Contest’ for the students of both the institutions at NIT, Hazratbal.
The event was aimed to engage young minds and share their innovations.
Dr. Tahir Ahmad Wani and Dr. Asif (CUK) were the jury members for the event. The event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Mir Insha. Dr. Muhammad Rafiq Teli and Dr. Nufazil Altaf were the event coordinators.
Team ‘Wheel AI’ led by Basr Qari from NIT Srinagar bagged the first position while second position was also bagged by Shahid Bhat of NIT Srinagar. The 3rd position was shared by the students from CUK and NIT Srinagar. Dr. Muhammad Rafiq Teli proposed the vote of thanks.
