CUK’s Zoology dept holds awareness prog

GANDERBAL: Department of Zoology, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), in collaboration with the Wildlife SOS, New Delhi organized an Awareness-cum-Training Programme to commemorate the World Snake Day, at science campus Nuner here.
The programme was chaired by Dean School of Life Sciences (SoLS), Prof. Abid Hamid Dar and Project Head, Wildlife SOS (for Jammu and Kashmir), Dr. Mir Aaliya.
In his welcome address, Coordinator, Deptt of Zoology, Dr. Mohammad Lateef highlighted the role of Herpatofauna in sustaining the ecological balance of nature. In his special remarks, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar while deliberating upon the necessity for conservation of snakes, highlighted the role of snake venom in medicinal industries throughout the world.
This was followed by an in-depth lecture on snake taxonomy by Dr. Mir Aaliya. Some myths and misconceptions regarding snake biology were defenestrated by Mr. Aqib Hussain. Mr. Umer Nazir gave hands-on-training regarding snake rescue and handling. The programme was attended by faculty members, Scientists, Research scholars and students. Dr. Chandrakiran Singh proposed the vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Hameem Mushtaq.
