SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday reviewed healthcare arrangements for the upcoming Muharram-ul-Haram during a meeting in Srinagar. She emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure seamless medical services for devotees participating in processions and gatherings. The meeting included senior officials such as MD NHM, MD JKMSCL, Director SKIMS, and Principals of GMCs, along with district officers.
The Minister directed hospitals like SKIMS, JVC, and SMHS to establish medical camps at key locations and ensure the availability of specialist doctors, paramedical staff, and life-saving medicines. She stressed the need for round-the-clock emergency response units, especially along major procession routes, to handle any medical exigency. Ambulances should be kept on alert and well-publicized to facilitate quick patient transfers.
Itoo urged officials to maintain adequate stocks of essential medicines, blood supplies, and emergency equipment, and to conduct regular monitoring to identify and address gaps beforehand. She emphasized close coordination with district administrations and other departments to ensure continuous ambulance and emergency services throughout Muharram.
Highlighting the safety and convenience of the public, the Minister called for proactive preparedness to manage unforeseen situations and prioritized the well-being of devotees. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating a peaceful and healthy observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, ensuring quality healthcare services during the holy month. The MLAs also raised various issues and sought smooth arrangements for devotees’ facilitation.
