BARAMULLA: Emphasising the transformative role of sports in shaping a progressive and disciplined society, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, on Sunday said that games and sports serve as a vital platform for nurturing confidence, resilience and leadership among the younger generation.
The Minister was addressing a large gathering after attending the grand finale of the Soin Premier League Cricket Tournament at Deinmarg in Soin, Rafiabad, where he was the chief guest. The summit clash of the tournament witnessed an exciting contest between MCC Rohama and Wonder XI Penzalla, drawing enthusiastic participation from sports lovers, local residents and youth from across the area.
In his address, Javid Dar underscored the significance of sports in the holistic development of young people, describing them as an essential component of a healthy and productive society.
“Sports are not merely a source of recreation; they are a school of life. They teach discipline, perseverance, teamwork and the ability to face challenges with courage and determination. The lessons learned on the playing field help young people navigate the ups and downs of life with confidence and positivity,” he said.
Highlighting the social and psychological benefits of sporting activities, the Minister observed that active participation in games promotes physical fitness, mental well-being and social cohesion. He noted that sports instil a spirit of fair play, mutual respect and healthy competition, while encouraging the youth to channel their energy towards constructive and meaningful pursuits.
Dar reiterated the government’s commitment towards strengthening the sports infrastructure and expanding opportunities for the aspiring athletes, particularly in rural areas. He stressed that nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots level remains essential for building a vibrant sporting culture and enabling the young achievers to excel at higher levels of competition.
Congratulating the winning team on their outstanding performance, the Minister applauded both finalists for displaying exceptional sportsmanship, discipline and competitive spirit throughout the tournament. He also commended the organisers of the Soin Premier League for successfully providing a platform that showcases local talent and promotes community engagement through sports.
“The enthusiasm displayed by the youth here is truly inspiring. Such tournaments not only identify the talent but also foster unity, camaraderie and a sense of purpose among the young people,” he remarked.
Expressing optimism about the future of sports in the region, Dar said that events like the Soin Premier League are instrumental in motivating young athletes and contributing to the development of a healthy, confident and forward-looking generation.
Later, Javid Dar, interacted with the public at Behrampora and Sopora and listened to their grievances and developmental demands.
During the interaction, the locals sought upgradation of playgrounds, installation of ATM facilities and other essential developmental works in their respective areas.
The Minister assured the people that all their genuine issues would be addressed in a time-bound manner.
