Police register case over traffic obstruction, assault on on-duty personnel

ANANTNAAG: J&K Police has registered a case after a driver obstructed traffic and assaulted on-duty police personnel during routine traffic regulation duties at Bus Stand Crossing in Anantnag.
“During routine traffic regulation duties at Bus Stand Crossing, a police party was deployed to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and prevent congestion in the area. During the course of duty, a vehicle bearing registration number JK03Q-4040 was found parked on the roadside, resulting in a major traffic obstruction and causing inconvenience to commuters,” a police spokesperson said.
He added, “When the police personnel requested the driver to remove the vehicle and clear the road for smooth traffic flow, the individual allegedly became aggressive and physically assaulted the police personnel on duty. Taking cognizance of the incident, FIR No. 172/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and investigation into the matter has been initiated.”
Police reiterates that obstruction of public roads and assault on public servants performing their lawful duties are serious offences and will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
