Srinagar: Continuing its relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting narcotics networks, police in Anantnag and Sopore have taken significant action against drug peddlers and their assets under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
In Anantnag, police attached a single-storey residential house belonging to accused Mohd Yousuf Hajam, son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, resident of Panchalthan Chatergul, under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act. The property, valued at approximately ₹22.49 lakh, was identified as illegally acquired, linked to proceeds from narcotic drug trafficking. This action is part of the ongoing effort to disrupt the financial backbone of drug networks.
The attachment was executed in connection with FIR No. 42/2026 registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Utrasoo, where the accused is involved. The move aims to prevent the illegal use of proceeds and deter others involved in narcotics trade from benefiting financially.
In a major crackdown in Sopore, police attached immovable property worth ₹22,49,046 belonging to notorious drug peddler Suhail Ahmad Zargar alias Lala, son of Bashir Ahmad Zargar, resident of Behrampora, Rafiabad. The property was identified as illegally acquired through narcotics trafficking and has been attached under the NDPS Act as part of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.
This action underscores the police’s strategy to target not only peddlers but also the assets generated from illegal activities, thereby weakening the economic foundation of drug networks. Police investigations have revealed several more properties linked to known narcotics traffickers across the district, with the process of attachment underway for these assets. More such actions are expected in the coming days.
Both police units reaffirm their unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace by taking stringent legal actions, including asset attachment, enforcement, and community engagement. They appeal to the public to continue supporting the fight against narcotics by sharing credible information and cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
The joint efforts aim to create a drug-free environment and ensure that offenders are deprived of their ill-gotten gains, thereby strengthening the overall campaign under Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir.
