SRINAGAR: As part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police have intensified their efforts to combat drug abuse through a series of awareness and de-addiction programmes across educational institutions and community spaces in Sopore, Rafiabad, and Shopian.
In Sopore and Rafiabad, police organized multiple outreach sessions aimed at sensitizing students, teachers, and local residents about the dangers of narcotics. The first programme took place at Government Middle School Batpora, Rafiabad, where participants discussed the social, legal, and health ramifications of drug abuse. Community elders were urged to actively participate in youth protection efforts, encouraging students to promote the message “Say No to Drugs” within their villages.
Continuing the campaign, another session was held at Government High School Balhama, Rafiabad. Here, students and faculty were briefed on the provisions of the NDPS Act, early warning signs of substance abuse, and the importance of timely intervention by parents and teachers. The school administration appreciated the police’s efforts in spreading awareness.
At Gulzar Memorial Educational Institute, Nowpora Sopore, in collaboration with local authorities, over 70 students participated in an interactive session. Youth were engaged in discussions on resisting peer pressure, avoiding substance use, and channeling energy into education, sports, and constructive activities. Awareness literature and pamphlets on prevention were also distributed.
Meanwhile, in Shopian, police conducted awareness programmes at Government Higher Secondary School Imamsahib, Primary School Kralcheck, Almustafa Educational Institute Mashwara, and in the Heerpora market area. Participants were educated about the harmful effects of drugs on health, mind, and society, emphasizing the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Officers encouraged youth to focus on education, sports, and positive pursuits, viewing them as key to building a safer community. The community members expressed appreciation for police-led efforts at the grassroots level.
The J&K Police reaffirmed their commitment to continuing these awareness initiatives as part of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan. The campaign’s objective is to combine awareness, enforcement, and community participation to dismantle drug networks and protect the youth from substance abuse. The police emphasized that sustained efforts in education and community engagement are vital to building a safer, healthier, and drug-free society across Jammu and Kashmir.
