**Khudwani, May 14:** An Input Distribution-cum-Training Programme on Best Practices for Wheat Production under the All India Coordinated Wheat and Barley Improvement Project (AICW&BIP), Tribal Sub Plan–Wheat, sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, was conducted on Thursday at the Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops (MRCFC) under SKUAST-Kashmir.
Twenty farmers belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category from Tangmarg village of Kulgam district participated in the programme, which included the distribution of inputs such as Shalimar Bioformulation (Trichoderma) and small farm tool kits among the participating farmers.
An interactive session was held between farmers and the scientific staff of MRCFC Khudwani, during which various issues related to wheat cultivation were discussed. The deliberations emphasized the importance of quality seed production, adoption of improved wheat varieties for enhancing food and nutritional security, and the use of biocontrol agents like Trichoderma to promote sustainable and organic farming practices.
Farmers were also apprised of the latest scientific methods for wheat cultivation and crop management.
The programme was chaired by Prof. Najeeb-ul-Rehman Sofi, who advised farmers to adopt quality seed and improved production technologies to achieve higher productivity and better economic returns.
