World Health Day: PM Modi calls for collective action to strengthen healthcare

Must read

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday marked World Health Day by expressing gratitude to healthcare workers and reaffirming India’s commitment to building a healthier society, underlining the importance of collective efforts to strengthen healthcare systems.
In a post shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister acknowledged the tireless contributions of medical professionals and others working to improve public health outcomes. “On World Health Day, we express our gratitude to all those who dedicate themselves tirelessly to the service of others and work towards a healthier planet,” he said.
Emphasising the need for sustained focus on healthcare, Modi reiterated that the government remains committed to the well-being of every citizen. “We also reaffirm our commitment to building a healthier society. Let us all keep working together to strengthen healthcare systems and prioritise the well-being of every individual,” he added.
Observed annually on April 7, World Health Day is led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to highlight critical global health challenges and encourage coordinated action. This year’s observance comes amid continued international focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to services, and improving preparedness for future health emergencies.
In recent years, India has rolled out multiple initiatives aimed at improving healthcare accessibility including wider health insurance coverage and increased investment in digital health systems. Policymakers have also stressed preventive healthcare, nutrition, and sanitation as essential components of public health strategy.
Experts note that despite notable progress, issues such as unequal access, workforce shortages, and infrastructure gaps persist. They say the Prime Minister’s message reinforces the need for collaboration among governments, healthcare providers, and communities to build resilient systems capable of addressing both present and future health challenges.
As countries continue to navigate an evolving global health landscape, the call for unity and sustained commitment remains central, with renewed emphasis on health equity and universal access to quality care.
