JKSA expands framework, integrates JKMSA as medical students’ wing

SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir Medical Students Association (JKMSA) has officially been designated as the Medical Students Wing and allied body of the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), a pan-India organisation representing students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh across the country and abroad.
In a statement issued here, the Association said, “This collaboration is rooted in a shared commitment to service, solidarity, and structured advocacy. Over the years, medical students from Jammu & Kashmir have faced a range of distinct academic and regulatory challenges; including issues related to recognition, internships, licensing, scholarships, examinations, safety, and overall professional uncertainty. This formal association aims to provide a stronger, more coordinated, and institutional support system to address these concerns effectively.”
National Convener of the Association Nasir, Khuehami, said, “As the dedicated medical and healthcare vertical of JKSA, JKMSA will focus on matters concerning students of MBBS, BDS, nursing, paramedical, and allied health sciences. Working in close coordination with JKSA’s national and state units across India, the medical wing will systematically take up issues related to accreditation, professional registration, policy implementation, and student welfare with the relevant authorities.”
Under this framework, a structured grievance redressal mechanism will be established specifically for medical students. Also, joint efforts will be made through policy representations, research briefs, and advocacy initiatives on issues impacting medical education and healthcare training. The collaboration will also strengthen emergency response coordination and institutional outreach, particularly for students studying outside Jammu & Kashmir and abroad.
In line with this organisational development, Dr. Wasim Khan will serve as Chairman, Dr. Imtiyaz Wani will serve as President, Dr. Safoora Syed will serve as Vice President, Dr. Anzer Firdous will serve as General Secretary, Dr. Seerat Ul Din will serve as Spokesperson, and Dr. Ansar Sofi will serve as Coordinator of the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Students Association (JKMSA).
This development represents a natural organisational evolution; bringing professional student communities under a broader umbrella while preserving their specialised focus and autonomy. It ensures that medical students benefit from both a dedicated platform for sector-specific concerns and the support of a wider national student network.
The Association added that it will ensure that no medical student feels isolated when confronted with academic, administrative, or professional challenges. It warmly welcomes the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Students Association into its organisational framework as its official Medical Wing and strategic ally, reaffirming its continued commitment to organised, peaceful, and issue-based student advocacy, grounded in constitutional values and constructive engagement across India.
