SRINAGAR: In a significant achievement, police in Handwara have secured a conviction in a sensitive case registered under FIR No. 69/2021 at Police Station Kralgund.
The Principal District & Sessions Court, Kupwara, sentenced the accused, Irshad Ahmad Mir, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. Additionally, the court sentenced him to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 363 IPC. Both sentences are to run concurrently.
The case involved the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl in 2021. This conviction underscores the dedicated investigation, professional approach, and relentless efforts of Handwara Police in delivering justice for victims, especially in cases involving crimes against children.
