Seize multiple vehicles in Ganderbal, Shopian

SRINAGAR: Continuing its relentless campaign against illegal mining activities, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has seized a total of seven vehicles involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals across Ganderbal and Shopian districts.
In Ganderbal, police recovered three vehicles—two Tippers and one Tractor—operating without necessary permissions. These vehicles were caught transporting illegally extracted minor minerals from Nallah Sindh within the jurisdictions of PS Safapora and PS Kangan. Acting swiftly in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department, police intercepted and seized the vehicles on the spot, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the region’s ecological balance and public resources. Officials warned offenders to desist from illegal mining, emphasizing that strict legal action will continue against all violators.
In Shopian, four tractors engaged in illegal mineral extraction and transportation were seized during routine patrols. Two tractors were intercepted in Berthipora and Takwan areas by police from Police Post Berthipora, leading to FIR No. 09/2026 registered at Police Station Keller. Similarly, two more tractors involved in illegal activities were seized by police from Keller, resulting in FIR No. 10/2026. Police have initiated further investigations and reiterated their resolve to safeguard natural resources.
The authorities appealed to the public to cooperate by reporting any illegal mining activities. They assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and vowed to take stringent action against all illegal mining offenders to protect the environment and prevent revenue loss.
