SRINAGAR: The 17th Raising Day of IRP-20th Battalion was celebrated on Wednesday at the Battalion Headquarters, Armed Police Complex (APC), Parihaspora, marking 17 years of distinguished service to the nation. The occasion was observed with traditional armed fervour, reflecting the battalion’s rich legacy, unwavering discipline, and steadfast commitment to duty.
The celebrations commenced with a Guard of Honour to the Chief Guest, followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyrs’ Gallery/Memorial, paying homage to the brave martyrs of the unit who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. A plantation drive was also organised at the Battalion Headquarters as part of the celebrations.
During the event, Surjeet Kumar, JKPS, Commandant IRP-20th Battalion, highlighted the vital role played by the battalion in internal security management and law & order duties. He stated that several officers and officials have brought laurels to the unit through acts of gallantry, meritorious service, exemplary performance in ceremonial duties, and achievements in sports, for which their efforts have been highly appreciated. He also thanked the families of officers and officials, whose patience, sacrifices, and moral strength act as silent pillars behind every successful mission accomplished by the force.
Addressing the officers and officials of the unit, the Chief Guest, DIG IR Kashmir Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, IPS, lauded the battalion for its exemplary service record and dedication in safeguarding national interests. He appreciated the unit’s significant contributions in maintaining law and order and exhorted all ranks to continue serving with the same zeal, professionalism, and commitment.
The event also featured the presentation of DGP Medals, commendation certificates, and awards to personnel for outstanding services, professionalism, and achievements in sports.
The Raising Day celebrations concluded with a unit get-together, fostering camaraderie and reinforcing the bond among all ranks. As part of the celebrations, a cultural programme was organised, followed by Bada Khana with the jawans of the unit.
The event was attended by the Commandants of IRP-3rd, IRP-6th, IRP-8th, IRP-9th, IRP-21st, and JKAP-13th Battalions, along with Dy. Commandants and DySPs of various battalions.
Gh. Mohd. Bhat, JKPS, Dy. Commandant IRP-20th Battalion, conducted the proceedings of the event and presented the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all officers and officials for their participation and cooperation in making the event a success.
