Safina Baig joins NC, calls it ‘only credible voice’ of J&K people

SRINAGAR: Former District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson, Baramulla, Advocate Safina Baig Wednesday joined the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) at a function held at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, in the presence of Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior party leaders.
The leaders warmly welcomed Safina Baig into the party fold amid enthusiastic slogans raised by hundreds of supporters who accompanied her to the venue.
Welcoming Safina Baig, Dr. Farooq said politics demands perseverance, courage, patience and wisdom adding that every political decision must be guided by foresight and a commitment to public welfare.
“The National Conference is not merely a political party; it is a people’s movement shaped by the sacrifices, struggles and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Expressing confidence in her abilities, Dr. Farooq said Safina Baig’s experience and commitment to public service would strengthen the party and contribute meaningfully to addressing the concerns of the people.
He stressed that unity and collective resolve are imperative at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a critical phase adding that despite numerous challenges, the people’s government remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the public.
Recalling the party’s historic legacy, Dr. Farooq said the National Conference has consistently safeguarded the aspirations, identity and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It was through the historic struggles of this party that democratic rights, educational opportunities and social justice reached the common people. The National Conference will continue to stand as the foremost defender of the people’s rights and aspirations,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Safina Baig said her decision to join the National Conference was the outcome of careful thought and deep reflection. “I have not joined the National Conference in pursuit of any office or position. I have joined as an ordinary worker because I firmly believe that the National Conference remains the only credible political platform capable of genuinely representing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and addressing their concerns,” she said.
Describing National Conference as a historic movement deeply rooted in the trust of the people, she said there is no alternative to the party in Jammu and Kashmir.
Safina Baig expressed gratitude to Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah for welcoming her into the party and placing their trust in her, pledging to work tirelessly to strengthen the organisation and serve the people with dedication.
The joining ceremony was attended by the party General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Cabinet Minister Javed Dar, Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Ahmad Mir, Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous, North Zone President and MLA Uri Dr. Sajjad Shafi, MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, MLA Gulmarg Farooq Shah, MLA Baramulla Javid Baig, party leader Mohammad Yaqoob Wani, Provincial Women’s Wing President Er. Sabiya Qadri, Social Media Incharge Ifra Jan, Constituency InchargeLangate Shafqat Watali, District President Baramulla Shahid Ali, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmad, Minority Cell Convener Jagdish Singh Azad and several senior party functionaries.
Hundreds of supporters from Baramulla accompanied Safina Baig on the occasion.
