Announces Panel of Chairmen; House pays tributes to former legislators
Jammu: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather on Monday said it is collective responsibility of the House to ensure productive outcomes during the session.
The Speaker said that people expect solutions to their problems and reminded members that significant public resources are invested in conducting legislative sessions, and it is the collective responsibility of the House to ensure productive outcomes.
Earlier, welcoming the members of the House, Speaker said that this institution represents the hopes, expectations and aspirations of the people who have elected us. “Serving the people is both privilege and profound responsibility upon all the members of the House,” he said.
The Speaker highlighted that time utilised in the House is precious, adding that every minute spent here belongs to the people. He urged upon the members that the judicious use of time is essential to live up to the expectations of the people.
The Speaker observed that democracy allows space for disagreements, but it must be expressed in a dignified manner, with mutual respect for one another. He cautioned that the proceedings of the House are closely watched by the public and even a single mistake does not go unnoticed.
He assured members that during the Budget Session, ample opportunities would be provided to accommodate all voices.
The Speaker also said that Business Advisory Committee of House has decided that two sittings will be held during current session so that every member can raise issues related to their constituency, ensure accountability of the government, and effectively represent public concerns.
He called upon members to set an example through their conduct and expressed hope that the House would fulfil the purpose for which people have elected their representatives.
Earlier, the Speaker tabled the Lieutenant Governor’s address before the house.
Meanwhile, the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, which convened today for Budget Session, paid glowing tributes to former MLA Ghulam Mohammad Khan and former MLC Khawaja Ghulam Mohammad Lone, who passed away since the last session.
During the Obituary references, the Speaker led the House in paying respects to the departed leaders, highlighting their contributions and dedicated efforts towards the upliftment of general public.
The Speaker and house members also observed a two-minute silence in memory of the former lawmakers, acknowledging their service and commitment to public welfare.
Meanwhile, the Speaker named three legislators as Panel of Chairmen for the Budget Session of Legislative Assembly commenced today.
He nominated MLA Eidgah Mubarak Gul, MLA Samba Surjeet Singh Slathia and MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat.
The Panel of Chairmen will preside over the House proceedings in absence of the Speaker.
