HAJIN: Following fresh snowfall in north Kashmir, the Sub-Divisional Administration Sonawari has stepped up snow clearance operations to restore road connectivity and essential services.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sumbal, Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh, said that snow clearance machinery has been deployed across Hajin, Sumbal and adjoining areas to clear major roads, while manual teams are working to clear inner lanes and by-lanes.

He said the operation is being carried out in a phased manner, with priority given to roads leading to hospitals, health centres and other essential facilities.

“Our staff has been working since early morning despite adverse weather conditions to ensure access to all areas,” the SDM said.

He appealed to residents to cooperate with the administration and avoid unnecessary travel until road clearance is completed.

Executive Engineer R&B, Tanveer Ahmad, said snow clearance is underway and the department is fully engaged.“We are hopeful that all inner link roads will be cleared soon. Several distress calls related to medical emergencies and funerals were received and were attended to on priority,” he said.

Meanwhile, MLA Sonawari Hilal Akbar Lone held a meeting with SDM Sumbal Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh, Executive Engineer R&B, Executive Engineer PDD and other senior officials to review the ongoing snow clearance and restoration of essential services in the constituency.

The MLA directed the administration to ensure the timely restoration of essential services and minimise inconvenience to the public.
