ADDC Shopian administers polio drops to infants

SHOPIAN: To mark National Immunization Day 2025, Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone on Sunday inaugurated the Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign by administering polio drops to an infant at DHS symbolically launching the district-wide drive aimed at protecting children against poliomyelitis.
The inauguration ceremony was held in presence of Chief Medical Officer Shopian, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, District Immunization Officer, District Nodal Officer AYUSH, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Shopian, Block Medical Officers of Shopian, Keller and Zainapora, alongwith other senior officers and officials of the Health Department.
Addressing the gathering, the ADDC underscored the significance of immunization in preventing life-threatening diseases and reiterated the district administration’s unwavering commitment to child health and welfare. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by health functionaries, frontline workers and community stakeholders to ensure that no child in the age group of 0–5 years is left out of the campaign.
The ADDC also appealed to parents and guardians to proactively cooperate with vaccination teams during the campaign and help sustain Shopian’s polio-free status.
On the occasion, health officials briefed about the modalities of the campaign, informing that special immunization booths, mobile teams and transit points have been established across the district to ensure maximum coverage. Special focus is being laid on hard-to-reach areas to achieve 100 percent immunization and to strengthen collective efforts and maintain vigilance to keep the district free from polio.
