SRINAGAR: In a concerted effort to enhance road safety and ensure strict adherence to vehicle registration laws, J&K Police has intensified vehicle checking and enforcement drives across multiple districts, including Awantipora, Shopian, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Budgam, and Sopore. These operations focus on seizing vehicles operating without proper ownership transfer, registration violations, and other traffic rule breaches.
Awantipora, Kulgam, and Anantnag: Police teams have conducted widespread vehicle checks, seizing several vehicles lacking updated ownership records or without proper documentation. In Awantipora, enforcement teams seized vehicles operating without proper transfer of ownership under the Motor Vehicles Act, urging owners to complete formalities promptly. Similar drives in Kulgam and Anantnag targeted violations such as non-transfer of ownership post-sale and rash driving, resulting in multiple seizures and legal proceedings.
Shopian and Pulwama: A week-long enforcement campaign resulted in legal action against 144 vehicles bearing registration numbers from other states, found plying without mandatory transfer or re-registration. Police emphasized the importance of timely ownership transfer to prevent misuse and ensure accountability.
Ganderbal, Budgam, and Sopore: Joint inspections, often in coordination with the Motor Vehicles Department, targeted vehicles with outside registration numbers still operating within the UT. In Budgam, 11 such vehicles were seized, highlighting security concerns related to illegal transfers and potential misuse. Similarly, in Sopore, enforcement drives focused on road discipline, involving checks on outside-UT registered vehicles and penalizing violations to promote safer roads.
Overall, these district-wide drives aim to prevent illegal vehicle operations, curb misuse, and enhance road safety. Police authorities have appealed to all vehicle owners to complete transfer and registration formalities promptly, maintain valid documents, and adhere to traffic laws to avoid penalties and legal action. The enforcement campaigns are set to continue in the coming days, reinforcing the commitment of J&K Police to uphold law and order on the roads.
