HAJIN: Residents of Line Mohalla in Shahgund village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have expressed strong resentment over persistent low-voltage issues that have continued for several years.
Locals said that despite repeated complaints, the issue remains unaddressed. “It has been more than five years since we started suffering due to low voltage. Around 150 households are relying on a single 250 KV transformer. As winter approaches, the voltage suddenly drops to around 50 volts,” the residents said, adding that their pleas to the authorities have yielded no response.
A local resident said the situation has made even basic needs difficult to manage. “We cannot even charge our phones properly due to the low voltage,” he said, urging the authorities to install a new or upgraded transformer to resolve the issue. “It is impossible to survive without electricity,” he added.
Residents alleged that although they regularly pay hefty electricity charges, their genuine grievances continue to be ignored. They appealed to the authorities to either install a new transformer or disconnect their power supply altogether, describing the present situation as “unbearable”.
They also urged the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to personally intervene so that the long-pending issue is resolved at the earliest.
