SHOPIAN: The Department of Islamic Studies at IMGDC Shopian organized a one-day seminar titled “The Golden Age of Muslim Civilization” on November 28, 2025. The seminar highlighted the remarkable contributions of medieval Muslim scholars to education and various sciences, including Medicine, Astronomy, Astrology, Historiography, Art, and Architecture.
Principal Dr. Muhammad Shafiq congratulated the Department for organizing such informative seminars and encouraged the continuation of similar programs in the future. Dr. Zaira Ashraf Khan, Head of the Department, emphasized the importance of hosting academic events like this to promote knowledge and scholarly discussion.
Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Head of the Department of Education, delivered an insightful lecture on the theme. The chief guest, Dr. Ather Shahbaz from the Faculty of Islamic Studies at GDC Women Pulwama, also delivered a keynote address, providing a comprehensive analysis of the subject.
Dr. Gowhar Hussain Bhat, Head of the Department of Physics, shared his perspectives on the influence of medieval Muslim scholars and their impact on modern scientists across various branches of science. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Shah from the Department of Islamic Studies at IUST contributed his thoughts on the topic as well.
Students from the 7th Semester, including Suby Jan, Owais Ahmad Dar, Misbah Amin, Insha Rashid, Bisma Jan, Mohsin Khursheed, and Nadiya Jan, presented their insights related to the seminar’s theme. The event was moderated by Mr. Muin-ul-Islam, a 7th-semester student.
A significant number of students from the Department of Islamic Studies and other departments, along with faculty members, participated in the program. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sartaj Ahmad Sofi of the Department of Islamic Studies.
