Three-day training on ‘Integrated Farming System’ concludes at SKUAST-K Wadura

SRINAGAR: HADP Project No. 13, titled “Adoption and Promotion of Integrated Farming System (IFS)/Integrated Livelihood Systems (ILS) in UT of Jammu and Kashmir, successfully organized and concluded a three-days capacity building training programme on “Integrated Farming System: An approach towards doubling farmers’ income” from August 26–28, 2025 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).T
The programme aimed at enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills on integrated farming practices, with a focus on improving farm productivity, profitability, and resource use efficiency for sustainable livelihoods. A total of 30 farmers from Rohama cluster of block Watergam Sopore actively participated in the training.
During the programme, experts and faculty members of SKUAST-K conducted interactive lectures, technical sessions, and practical demonstrations on a wide range of themes including crop diversification strategies, integrated nutrient and pest management, protected cultivation for round-the-year production, high-density orchard-based IFS models, livestock and fisheries integration, mushroom cultivation, and the role of apiculture in income diversification. Special emphasis was laid on resource recycling and enterprise selection in IFS for sustainable and profitable farming.
Dr. A. A. Saad, Professor of Agronomy, delivered the welcome address. The valedictory function was graced by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad Mir, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura as Chief Guest. He highlighted the significance of integrated farming systems in ensuring better utilization of farm resources, reducing risks, generating rural employment, and achieving the goal of doubling farmers’ income. He emphasized that integration of enterprises like crops, livestock, fisheries, horticulture, and allied activities can build resilience in farming communities.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the technical knowledge shared and showed eagerness to adopt integrated farming practices in their own fields. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates among the farmers. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Tahir Ahmad Sheikh, Assist. Prof. Division of Agronomy, FoA, Wadura. The Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, reaffirmed its commitment to continue such initiatives under HADP for empowering the farming community and fostering sustainable livelihood systems in Jammu and Kashmir.
