HAJIN: In an effort to promote safety, dignity, and confidence among young girls, the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW) on Thursday organised a one-day awareness programme titled “Every Girl is a Light” in Town Hall MC Hajin.
The event was aimed at empowering adolescent girls aged 10 to 25 by addressing issues of harassment, understanding consent and boundaries, and spreading awareness about their legal rights, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) guidelines, and cyber safety laws.
The programme witnessed active participation from local community leaders, field staff, and dozens of young girls, who engaged in dynamic sessions featuring real-life scenario role-plays, confidence-building exercises, and open discussions. The interactive format helped participants learn how to recognise and respond to harassment in schools, streets, and online spaces.
Project Manager of JKASW, in her inaugural speech, emphasised the importance of nurturing the inner strength of girls, stating, “Every girl carries a unique light — of courage, dreams, and potential. Our role is to ensure that nothing dims that light.”
The event also included creative activities where participants designed posters and wrote impactful slogans such as “Safe Girls, Bright Future” and “Stop Harassment, Let Girls Shine”.
The programme concluded with a vibrant rally from Hajin yard, drawing attention to the cause and spreading the message across the community.
