Reviews progress of PMAY-U 2.0 in Srinagar
SRINAGAR: Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb on Friday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to discuss the Capital Expenditure (Capex) budget estimation for the financial year 2025–26.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of SMC, with discussions centered on strategic planning, accurate project cost assessments, and effective project executions.
During the meeting, Commissioner emphasized that transparent and well-structured budgeting is essential for driving sustainable urban development and improving public service delivery.
He underscored the importance of cost accuracy, timely approvals, and seamless project execution, aligning infrastructure goals with the broader vision for a resilient and inclusive Srinagar.
Haseeb directed all departments/Wings of SMC to submit detailed and realistic cost estimates in the coming days to facilitate timely execution of projects. He also encouraged teams to explore innovative financing mechanisms and stressed the need for strong monitoring systems to ensure accountability and optimal use of public funds.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to citizen-centric governance, Commissioner noted that this review marks an important step toward building a smarter, more efficient, and sustainable Srinagar in the upcoming financial year.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner SMC chaired a comprehensive review meeting on the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). He was joined by Mr. Shahbaz Mirza (JKAS), MD Housing Board/Mission Director PMAY (Kashmir), and Nuzhat Khurshid, Joint Commissioner (Administration).
The session focused on evaluating current progress and strategizing enhanced delivery of housing benefits to the urban poor and homeless in Srinagar. Senior officials from SMC and the Revenue department also participated.
Commissioner directed to expedite the beneficiary identification process across all wards, ensuring transparent and inclusive verification supported by accurate documentation. Emphasizing inter-departmental coordination, Haseeb called for greater community engagement and awareness campaigns to boost scheme outreach.
Departments were instructed to fast-track pending approvals, finalize Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) promptly, and strengthen on-ground monitoring mechanisms.
Special focus was laid on the inclusion of vulnerable groups, including women-headed households.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to accelerate PMAY-U 2.0 implementation, aiming to make Srinagar a model for inclusive and sustainable urban housing development.
