Admin Issues Guidelines For Second Mock Drill

Must read

Srinagar: The Jammu District administration has issued guidelines for the second mock drill, codenamed “Operational Shield” and sought cooperation from the general public in making the exercise successful.
“The District Administration Jammu informs the general public that a Mock Blackout Drill will be conducted on 31st May, 2025, from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM, as part of district-wide emergency preparedness and safety training,” reads a public notice.
This exercise aims to familiarize citizens with emergency response protocols during blackout or crisis situations and to evaluate the readiness of the public and the administration, it noted.
“Public is advised to follow these instructions strictly during the drill:- Switch off all lights and sources of illumination (inverter lights, solar lights, torches, mobile lights, vehicle lights, etc.) immediately after the siren sounds at 8:00 PM. Draw curtains over windows to prevent light emission. Do not panic-this is a mock drill and not a real emergency,” it said, adding, “All business activities, vehicular movement, and routine operations must pause for the 15-minute duration.
Inform and prepare elderly, children, and persons with health concerns to avoid distress or panic.
All the emergency services and critical care facilities will remain functional during the exercise.
Your cooperation is vital to the success of this exercise.”
Meanwhile, the states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will also conduct mock drills on Saturday as part of the nationwide exercise “Operation Shield,” a development that comes days after a similar nationwide exercise was held on May 7 amid India-Pakistan tensions.
These drills follow the directive issued by the home ministry following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Earlier, the mock drills under Operation Shield were announced to be held in the states bordering Pakistan—Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana, along with the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. However, they were postponed due to administrative reasons.
