India-Pakistan ceasefire: IPL 2025 set to resume next week as franchises reconnect with overseas players

Must read

NEW DELHI: In a positive development following the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is poised to restart as early as Thursday or Friday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is finalizing the remaining details and fixtures, with matches expected to be played across India, excluding Dharamsala, where the league was previously suspended due to cross-border tensions, Times of India reported.

The ceasefire, which took effect at 5 pm after direct talks between Indian and Pakistani military officials, has allowed the cricketing action to resume. Overseas players, who had returned home amid concerns over airport closures and border issues, are now preparing to rejoin their teams. Franchises are actively coordinating with their international players to ensure a smooth restart.

Sources indicated that the overseas contingent was initially anxious about travel disruptions but expressed confidence in the situation improving. The Delhi Capitals-Punjab Kings fixture in Dharamsala, halted midway last week, might be restarted when the league resumes. The IPL Governing Council is working on finalizing the complete fixture list to facilitate a seamless return of the tournament.

The league’s suspension earlier was a result of escalating cross-border tensions, but with the recent peace efforts, normalcy is expected to return swiftly. Fans and teams alike are hopeful that this renewed stability will allow cricket to bring joy and unity during challenging times.
