NEW DELHI: Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav, and Sahil Silwal will be the Indian javelin throwers participating in the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic Event on 24th May in Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

The three Indian throwers will join Neeraj Chopra and seven foreign throwers in the tournament that has been given A category status by World Athletics

“India, here’s your homegrown contingent for the #NCClassic2025! The full list of confirmed Indian javelin throwers for the inaugural edition of the #NeerajChopraClassic is out!” said a post on ‘X’ handle of the event, along with the three Indian names and their pictures.

Among the three Indians competing, 25-year-old Sachin has the best career throw of 84.39m and has won all the events he participated in 2025. He started the season with personal best at the National Games in Uttarakhand and won gold in Federation Cup in Kochi earlier this month. He will be representing India at the Asian Championships (May 27-31) in South Korea.

Rohit has a personal best of 83.40m and is yet to make a proper comeback after his surgery last year. He had won a silver in the Uttarakhand National Games with 80.47m, but settled for the seventh place with a modest 76.37m in the Federation Cup.

Sahil is another promising javelin thrower and has a personal best of 81.81m which he had achieved last year at the National Inter-State Championships winning gold medal.

While Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem  declined Neeraj’s offer to play in the Neeraj Chopra Classic citing clash of dates with his training schedule for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships, several athletes including former World Champion Anderson Peters and former Olympic champion Thomas Rohler agreed to participate in the event.
