In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare system, the demand for trained professionals is higher than ever—doctors, lab technicians, OT specialists, and yes, nurses. Yet, a curious and unfortunate perception persists: that nurses are somehow “lesser” than their counterparts. The truth, however, is far from that.
Nursing is not just a profession—it’s a calling.
It is a journey that requires years of study, tireless nights completing assignments, relentless exam preparation, and countless hours spent in clinicals—not paid, but paid for—all in the name of healing others.
Nurses hold the hands of those walking toward death.
They listen to the rhythmic heartbeats and fading breaths of complete strangers. They bear witness to suffering, to last words, to healing—and sometimes, to heartbreak.
So, before you ever say, “You’re just a nurse”, remember—I cared for your loved one for 10 hours straight. I heard their final wishes when you weren’t around. I washed them, fed them, comforted them; did for them what they could no longer do themselves.
Before you raise your voice against my profession, know this—I have been trained to care and to cure. I speak to patients whose only view of the world is through a hospital ceiling.
And still—I listen. I care. I stay.
Yes, I am that stone-hearted angel— wearing white on my shoulders, but warmth in my heart. Of course, I have gained knowledge from books— but no book taught me how to soothe a crying patient.
No professor taught me how to tell a family their loved one is dying. No clinical instructor showed me how to find dignity in giving someone a bed bath.
“A nurse isn’t just about pills, injections, assessments, or vitals. It’s about loving people—when they are at their weakest, their most vulnerable, their most human.”
So yes—I am proud to be a nurse.
I’m that underrated nurse who’s writing this verse
And when the condition of your loved one gets worse
You won’t find anyone kinder than a nurse in the whole universe.
