SHOPIAN: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Shopian, Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay on Saturday visited several hail-affected areas of the Shopian constituency, to assess the extensive damage caused to orchards and crops by the hailstorm.
MLA was accompanied by officials from the Horticulture and Revenue Departments.
Adv. Kullay visited Manloo, Narapora, Keller, K-Hallan, Gatipora, Mujpathri, Kral Chak, Berthipora, Kanipora Balapora, Wathoo, Shirmal, Tengwani, Tukroo, Pashpora, Mispora, Audora Rampathri, Ahagam, Nazneenpora and many other affected villages.
During the tour, MLA interacted with the distressed orchardists, witnessed firsthand the widespread losses, and offered his unwavering support. Expressing deep concern, he stated that the pain and hardship of the growers at this crucial stage of flowering is a collective loss for the entire region.
He urged the district administration to immediately assess the damages and ensure prompt and adequate relief to the affected farmers. He reiterated his commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with the farming community during these testing times and ensuring that no grower is left unheard or unsupported.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta also conducted an extensive tour of various villages of the district which reported damage to fruit orchards particularly, apple, cherry and pears.
DC visited Ganowpora, Manloo, Mujpathri, Watho, Shirmal, Poterwal and other adjacent hailstorm hit villages, interacted with affected farmers and locals to take stock of the situation on ground.
During his interaction, DC assured farmers of the district administration’s full support and emphasized that every effort would be made to ensure timely relief and compensation.
He instructed the field officers to finalise immediate damage assessment and submit comprehensive reports detailing loss.
The district administration stands with the affected families in this difficult time. “We are committed to a swift and transparent process of assessment and relief distribution,” DC said.
Furthermore, the Horticulture department has been directed to assist farmers in post hail damage control and to provide necessary technical guidance to mitigate further losses.
