Launches dedicated smart bus service from Jehangir Chowk to old city interiors

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Women’s Wing President and MLA Habba Kadal Shameema Firdous reiterated that Omar led government committed to enhance public transportation in the historically significant old city areas that were previously disconnected from major traffic routes.
Firdous made these remarks while launching the smart bus service from Jehangir Chowk to the old city interiors including Habba Kadal, Bohri Kadal, Nawab Bazar, and Jama Lata. The event was attended by local party officials and Srinagar Smart City bus service representatives.
Highlighting the significance of the bus service, Shameema Firdous pointed out that the city interiors had been neglected by successive governments since 2014, resulting in a lack of initiatives to improve public transportation.
She noted that residents of the old city had to endure long journeys in unpredictable weather conditions to catch a bus, leading to wasted time. “The absence of dedicated bus services to the city interiors also posed challenges for patients and elderly individuals,” she added.
Firdous expressed confidence that the introduction of the smart city bus service would breathe new life into the old city areas, making public transportation more convenient.
She emphasized that the development of Srinagar has always been a top priority for the National Conference, and they are determined to ensure a better quality of life for the city’s residents.
She reiterated that the Omar Abdullah government has a five-year mandate and is fully committed to meeting the expectations of the people of Srinagar.
