SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh.
In his heartfelt message, Dr Abdullah extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, especially to Dr Singh’s wife and daughters.
“Dr Manmohan Singh was a paragon of patriotism and secularism, embodying the virtues of a true leader. His tenure as Prime Minister was marked by remarkable contributions to India’s economic landscape, notably the transformative reforms of 1991 that liberalized our economy and set the foundation for modern India,” he said.
Dr Abdullah also highlighted Dr Singh’s distinguished role on the international stage, particularly his contributions to the United Nations, which enhanced India’s stature globally. “As an economist and statesman, Dr Singh’s vision and policies were instrumental in shaping the trajectory of our nation’s development,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Abdullah offered Friday congregational prayers at the revered Asar-e-Sharif Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar. Joining thousands of devotees, Dr Abdullah prayed for peace and prosperity in the region. Additionally, Dr Abdullah prayed for timely snowfall to alleviate the prevailing dry conditions in Kashmir.
