GMS Onagam distributes stationery worth rs 65,000 to support 150 students

Annual Day function highlights importance of education, community support in overcoming financial barriers for students

BANDIPORA: Government Middle School (GMS) Onagam, in collaboration with Bhat Stationery Bandipora, distributed stationery items worth Rs 65,000 among 150 students during a simple Annual Day function held at the school. The event was presided over by the Cluster Head and Principal of Nadim Memorial Higher Secondary School, along with the Zonal Education Officer of Quilmuqam.
During the distribution, 45 students from the middle department received 10 notebooks and 2 ball pens each, while 102 students from the primary department were gifted 6 notebooks and 10 pencils each. This initiative aimed to support parents struggling to provide basic educational materials for their children due to financial constraints.
Ab Rashid Lone, Cluster Head,in his presidential address highlighted the importance of education by stating, “The book and pen are the most precious gifts for a student.” He praised the Headmaster and staff for their continued efforts in providing valuable resources to students. Lone also acknowledged the school’s unique initiatives, emphasizing that GMS Onagam stands out in the district for its focus on student welfare and well-being and quality education.
Zonal Educational Officer Quilmuqam Mohammad Hussain expressed his satisfaction with the event, where stationary items were distributed to all students. Commending the Head of Institution (HOI) and the team for their exceptional contributions to quality education, he also addressed the challenges faced by the school, which operates from a rented building with minimal facilities. He assured attendees of his commitment to securing a new building for the school, which has shown great promise in student enrollment and development.
Prominent social activist and former District Representative of JKYF Bandipora, M.Y. Bhat, emphasized the importance of integrating quality skill-based and spiritual education into the curriculum. His speech underscored the need to equip students with both practical skills and moral values for a brighter future.
HOI, Javaid Jawad thanked the guests,staff members and Bhat Stationary Bandipora for their support to make this event a success.
Headmaster of GMS Onagam, Javaid Jawad, shared his observations during his tenure, stating, “We identified a significant number of students unable to afford proper stationery, which negatively impacts their education.” He also informed that last year, stationery items worth Rs 50,000 were distributed to students on various occasions.
Javaid Jawad further highlighted that the school, with the help of generous philanthropists, provided school shoes to several deserving students in the previous academic session. This continued effort reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting underprivileged students and ensuring their uninterrupted education.
