SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department of the Drug and Food Control Organization conducted an intensive inspection and sampling drive targeting Nanwaei (Kashmiri roti makers) across Srinagar city on Wednesday. The initiative aimed to ensure the hygiene, sanitation, and quality of the rotis being sold to consumers.
During the drive, several Nanwaei were found violating sanitary and hygiene standards, leading to penalties under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The department also collected samples of maida (refined flour) and prepared dough from various outlets for detailed analytical testing to verify adherence to quality standards.
Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Mr. Yameen ul Nabi, emphasized that the drive reflects the department’s commitment to safeguarding public health. He assured that the inspections would continue across the city and that strict action would be taken against violators to ensure compliance with hygiene and sanitary regulations under the law.
The department has urged all food business operators, including Nanwaei, to maintain proper hygiene and follow safety guidelines to ensure the quality of food products provided to the public.
