For restoration of Old Pension Scheme in Jammu & Kashmir
Dear Chief Minister,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the discontinuation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in Jammu & Kashmir and the urgency regarding its restoration. As you know, the shift to the New Pension Scheme (NPS) has raised significant anxieties among government employees, particularly those who have dedicated their lives to public service.
As a concerned citizen, I strongly urge you to reconsider this decision and reinstate the OPS for the benefit of government employees. The implementation of the New Pension Scheme (NPS) has raised significant concerns among government employees. The NPS, with its market-linked nature, offers uncertain returns and lacks the financial security and peace of mind that the OPS provided.
The OPS, with its assured pension benefits, was a reliable source of income for retired government employees and their families. It was a crucial factor in attracting talented individuals to public service and ensuring a stable workforce. Its discontinuation has created a sense of insecurity and anxiety among the current workforce, affecting their morale and productivity. The NPS, however, offers a more uncertain and market-linked retirement benefit, leaving employees vulnerable to economic fluctuations.
I respectfully request you to consider the following points:
Financial Security: The OPS provided a guaranteed income for life, ensuring financial stability for retired employees and their dependents.
Employee Morale: The uncertainty associated with the NPS can negatively impact the morale and motivation of government employees.
Social Security: The OPS was a crucial social security measure, particularly for those who may not have other sources of income.
I implore you to honour your commitment to the restoration of the OPS. This would not only alleviate the concerns of government employees but also boost morale and productivity within the public sector. This will not only benefit the current workforce but also reassure future generations of government employees. A strong and motivated workforce is essential for the progress and development of our UT.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Mudasir Khan,
Advocate/Social Activist
