JAMMU: In a pioneering effort to combat the growing threat of cybercrime, the Jammu & Kashmir Police, in collaboration with Punjab Police, Himachal Pradesh Police, and experts from IIT Jammu, conducted a joint exercise on “Digital Arrest” aimed at enhancing inter-agency coordination and leveraging technology to tackle cybercriminal activities.
The exercise, which brought together law enforcement agencies and technical experts, focused on equipping police personnel with advanced tools and strategies for the detection, investigation, and arrest of cybercriminals. The session included a comprehensive case study presented by Punjab Police, showcasing their successful efforts in utilizing digital arrest methods and best practices for apprehending individuals involved in cybercrimes.
One of the key takeaways from the exercise was the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in bolstering cyber defenses. Experts emphasized how AI-driven algorithms can be instrumental in tracking cybercriminal activities in real-time, analyzing large volumes of data, and predicting potential threats. This approach not only enhances the efficiency of cybercrime investigations but also allows for proactive identification and prevention of digital fraud.
The use of AI/ML in digital forensics was highlighted as a critical tool for law enforcement agencies to stay ahead of evolving cybercriminal tactics. The exercise also included practical demonstrations of how these technologies can be employed to detect and freeze fraudulent transactions swiftly, preventing financial losses and minimizing the impact on victims.
“This joint exercise represents a significant step toward enhancing our capacity to combat cybercrime effectively. Through technology, collaboration, and continuous learning, we are committed to ensuring that our digital spaces remain safe and secure,” said a senior J&K Police official.
